1. Instructors who have done the job
Our instructors have more than 300 years of industry experience between them. Davie spent over 46 years in general haulage, wide loads and high-value loads. Rab has driven skips, heavy plant deliveries, tankers and livestock. Jamie has delivered fuel and hauled livestock. When they explain why a manoeuvre matters, they are drawing on decades of doing it for real. Meet the whole team.
2. Examiners on the team
Two of our instructors are DVSA reverse examiners, one is a delegated examiner for the Driver CPC Module 4 practical demonstration test, and every driving instructor is registered on the National Vocational Driving Instructors Register (NVDIR). They know exactly what the test standard looks like, so you train to that standard from your first lesson.
3. The right course from the start
A lot of failed tests start with the wrong booking. Before you commit, we ask about your experience and what you want to drive. We will tell you honestly whether Direct Access C+E suits you or whether you would do better stepping up from Category C, and we make sure your medical and theory tests are in place. Our HGV licence guide sets out every step.
4. Real time in the cab
You learn in dual-controlled lorries on real roads around Dumfries and Perth, not just round a yard. On our NPORS plant courses we take no more than three trainees per machine, so you spend the day operating rather than watching.
5. Help with the theory
The practical test is only part of it. The medical, the provisional licence application and the theory tests trip up plenty of people before they ever reach a lorry. We will point you in the right direction at each stage. On our No One Left Behind project in Perth, that support included help with the medical and application and online theory tuition sessions.
A tip for choosing any training provider
Ask for their pass rate, and ask who will actually be teaching you. Ours is 90%, and you can read about every instructor before you book.
