In March 2024 Nithcree became a registered NPORS training and examination centre. It was one of the biggest additions to our courses since the Dumfries centre opened in 2001, and it is why our name now reads Logistics & Construction Training.
Why plant training?
Haulage and construction go hand in hand. The firms that need lorry drivers often need machine operators too, and plenty of drivers already work around plant: delivering it, loading it with a lorry loader or moving materials with a forklift. Across Dumfries and Galloway, construction, agriculture, forestry and quarrying all depend on carded operators. Adding NPORS meant those employers and workers could come to one place for both.
What NPORS means for operators
NPORS (the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) is one of the main UK card schemes for plant operators, and NPORS cards carrying the CSCS logo are accepted on construction sites across the country. Pass your test and you receive a red Trained Operator card. Complete an NVQ or SVQ while working on the machine and you can move up to the blue Competent Operator card.
Most courses run in three ways: novice training for new operators, refresher training for card holders, and the experienced worker test for skilled operators who have never held a card. Read more on our plant training page.
The plant courses we run now
Since registering we have built up 13 NPORS courses at Dumfries, from one-day MEWP courses to ten-day 360° excavator training. Most courses take no more than three trainees per machine.
